Influenster... what's this all about??

Being on social media fairly frequently, particularly my Instagram, i noticed that a lot of the ladies I follow were receiving all kinds of free things from a mysterious account called "Influenster". Women were receiving hundreds of dollars worth of skin care and makeup and all kinds of other things - for free?!

My first thought was scam. And I moved on with my life. But post after post of "I received this free for testing purposes" and I thought maybe it was time to see what this is all about.

I went to the website, read a bit and signed up expecting to have to put in credit card information and that's when I would have closed my browser. However there was none of that! I entered some usual personal information and my current address and then answered some questions about my interests, skin type, hair type, etc. and I was on my way to receiving my first box (they term it voxbox) completely free.

You receive a “score” based on the social media impact you have. For example, your friends on facebook, your followers on instagram and Twitter, and any other social media websites you use. The higher the score, the better. You can also gain points towards your score and earn badges by reviewing products on the website, answering people’s questions about products, and so on.

After participating in the website for about a month I received an email asking me to complete a quick survey to qualify for the “Spring Vibes Voxbox” and a couple days later it was in the mail for me. I received my box very quickly and was excited to see what came inside.

The Voxbox I received included the following items for me to test and review:

  • Ebates branded Popsocket

  • Arm & Hammer coupon for free laundry detergent

  • Nivea Q10 Body Oil

  • imPRESS stick on nails

  • 2 Quaker Fruit & Nut bars

  • Annie’s homegrown shells with real aged cheddar

  • 3 Nescafe sweet & creamy

I was impressed with all of the products I received. I would have preferred to get the box full of high end Lancome makeup and skin care… but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose. I will take what I can get.

The standout products for me were the laundry detergent, Nivea body oil, and the homegrown shells which is essentially a great mac and cheese which I have repurchased many times already! The stick on nails were interesting and I was surprised at how well they stayed on and looked nice. Overall I was really happy with everything I received and I have since reviewed everything on the Influenster website or the product’s website.
