False lashes - How does she do it??
Not to brag, but I have been blessed with naturally long, fairly thick, and curled lashes. Most of my life I have just popped on a couple layers of mascara and I’m done with my lashes. However, every once in a while I like to put on lashes for an even more dramatic effect for certain looks or special occasions. This past New Year's Eve I decided it was a special enough occasion. I bought some lashes and glue and started to try to figure it out late December.
Since I had never really worn false lashes before, I watched many of my favourite YouTubers to see how they applied them, what glue they used, and the shapes that looked best. After my brief research I ventured into Walmart and started browsing the large wall of falsies. I settled on a "starter kit" which included 2 pairs of Ardell lashes, some clear/white Duo glue and some cheap plastic tweezers with a tool on the opposite end to help push the lashes to the eyelid. I got home, broke into the kit, read the instructions, and tried it out!
The first attempt went okay. They were on and it didn’t look ridiculous. And the 5 or 6 times since that I have tried it I have learned my most important lesson: patience. I am not a patient person, but to me this is the most important "trick" to getting the lashes to adhere and stay all day/night. If you apply when the glue is too wet, it won't stick properly and you will be left with a smear of glue all over your lid which can ruin any of the lovely eyeshadow you just finished blending. The time it takes to dry enough depends on the type of glue and the amount you use. It takes about 1 minute for the amount of Duo glue I use to get tacky enough to stick properly. Here are some steps that I try to follow:
First, trim your lashes to fit your eye. You don't want them to sit too close to the inside of your eye as I find they poke a bit when you blink or look around. And you don't want them to hang too far off the edge of the outside of your eye.
Next, apply the glue and wait for it to become tacky like I said above.
How I learned to actually apply lashes the easiest is to look down into a mirror and bring the falsies down towards your eye and place them on top of your natural lashes. Then take your tweezers and push the lashes into the lid gently to make sure they are adhered well all over the lash.
If you screw up, pull it off gently, remove the dried glue carefully and then try again. Practice makes perfect!! You can watch all the tutorials in the world, but like many makeup application processes you will find out what works best for you over time and with practice.
To remove the lashes either soak a cotton ball in eye makeup remover and soak the lash for a bit or buy some lash adhesive remover.
You can reuse your lashes multiple times if they aren't damaged by just gently removing the glue.
Have you tried false lashes before? Have any tips for me or others? I would love to hear
