Comprehensive Dry Shampoo Analysis: Pantene
Over the next few months I plan to test all the dry shampoos in my search to replace my once perfect dry shampoo – the Pantene blue bottle. The most important element of a dry shampoo to me is the ability to disguise grease in my hair. I will also be looking at the "white cast", or powdery residue that would show on darker hair colours, smell, heaviness or "feel" on the scalp and to the touch and if it's worth the price. I have thin, blonde hair that gets very greasy feeling and looking on it's second day so dry shampoo is a necessary product in my life. If you feel the same way, keep reading!
To start, a quick story... Once upon a time Pantene had three different dry shampoos: The green (original fresh), purple (root reboot), and blue (blowout extend) bottles. Just like the goldilocks story, green was too little, purple was too much, but blue was just right. And then it was discontinued… and my search to find it’s perfect replacement was on.
Product: Pantene Dry Shampoo
Cost: Around $5 from Walmart or any drug store
In replacement of the three shampoos was one just called “Dry Shampoo” which “Cleanses & removes oil. Refreshes style”. It didn’t do a terrible job. It had a classic Pantene scent, which was fairly strong but not too overwhelming (like some other dry shampoos I will be reviewing soon).
However, in order to take a photo of this bottle for my post I had to dig it out of the trash! And that is because of it’s terrible spray nozzle!! Over the years I have purchased dozens of dry shampoo products from the P&G brand line (ie. Pantene, Herbal Essences, and Vidal Sassoon specifically) and all of them have the same style of nozzle. The issue I have with this nozzle is that it gets clogged with product and if you don’t use it regularly (and in some cases even when I am using it frequently) the nozzle gets clogged with product and is essentially garbage. There were one or two bottles that after only two or three uses it would clog up and I would have a brand new product that I have to throw out. After the third or fourth time this happened I went to their customer service website and filed a complaint. The customer service team suggested to me to rinse the cap after using it, but that never worked for me. To resolve my issue, I was sent a $6 coupon to use for any P&G hair product. I did this about 4 times and received a coupon every time before I gave up and started looking for something new.
That long story leads up to my conclusion about this product: Nope. I will not be repurchasing this particular dry shampoo. It didn’t do much for my greasy hair and the nozzle clogged up just like every other time I purchased that style of bottle. I can’t even tell you if it gives a white cast on darker hair or what it smells like because it clogged up before I wrote this and I don’t want to waste another $5!
Have you tried this product? What did you think?
Keep an eye out next week to see what I think about the next brand I will be reviewing!
