Bite Beauty – Agave Lip Mask vs. Agave Lip Balm

Agave Lip Mask, clear - $30 from Sephora

Agave Lip Balm - $20 from Sephora

At the beginning of this year I purchased the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask from Sephora as I have very dry lips, especially in the winter, and I had heard good reviews for this product. I have now been using it for about 2 months and agree with all the reviews I have heard. It is very long wearing for a balm, moisturizes my lips, all while smelling and tasting delicious. I also love the way it looks on my lips. It’s got high shine but doesn’t move around too much, so I wear it first thing in the morning when I am heading out to work or the gym and also right before bed if my lips are dry that day. It also comes in other shades if you want to wear it like a gloss during the day, but I only have clear. While it is definitely on the pricier side (which is why I hesitated to purchase it for so long), I am a huge fan of this product. One drawback is that I don’t really like applying lip products with my finger so I prefer a stick balm. Another problem I have found is that the product is susceptible to the temperature around it, so if it gets cold it gets very hard and becomes difficult to get out of the little tube.

I thought the solution to these minor problems would be to purchase the Agave Lip Balm which I picked up from the Bite Beauty Lip Lab during my visit there in early February. Plus, it’s $10 cheaper so that’s a win-win for me! However, I am not a fan of the lip balm! I love that it’s in a tube and the packaging is adorable, but the product is a lot more different than the mask than I thought it would be. The product has a different smell and taste that is kind of waxy to me. Also, it’s tough to put on! I have to tug at my lips a bit more than I like, it doesn’t glide on smoothly like most of my other similar balms. That being said it does stay on longer than other balms I have, so when my lips are extremely dry I will reach for this over the others. It does do the trick and keep my lips moisturized, but the lip mask is still the best for me. Finally, the price tag is a bit deceiving. While it is $10 cheaper, you are getting significantly less product. The balm has only 4.2 grams compared to the lip mask’s 15 grams.

In this vs. battle, I will definitely be repurchasing the Agave Lip Mask again and likely wont repurchase the lip balm when I use it up.

Have you tried any of Bite Beauty's products? What do you think about the mask/balm?
